For many years I have used baking soda, and detergent to do my washing. But, I have found a new solution we all can all make at home and use, to help our clothes feel fantastic.

I like to be as green as possible, but I also love to select the scent I enjoy instead of settling for something that is not really me and wearing it throughout the day. Who doesn't love gorgeous-smelling laundry?
I love using essential oils in the laundry. Since it is powerful you will only need a few drops as the smell will go far. Using oils will help be kind to waterways. Many essential oils have powerful anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties too.

For your first eco friendly green wash, simply use 1/3 cup of washing soda for a normal load. This will remove the detergent residue. You will need to stir it for 5 to 10 minutes in a stand mixer after you add the vinegar to help it form a paste. Whip it for about 5 or maybe 10 minutes. If you don’t have a stand mixer or electric beaters, just keep stirring! Then place the mixture into a large container and allow to stand for about 1/2 an hour. The mixture will expand and become even more powdered, resembling a heavy laundry detergent powder. Then store in a sealed container in your laundry room.

Recipe that will make your clothes happy:
This homemade natural laundry detergent powder is really effective and much kinder to our water ways.
Total Time 45 minutes
Servings 3 1/4 cups
Ingredients
1 cup distilled white vinegar
Few drops of your favorite oil (lavender oil and tea tree oil are a few options)
1 cup baking soda (sodium bicarbonate)
1 cup washing soda (sodium carbonate)
1/4 cup natural liquid castile soap
Note: The residue from your detergent can mix with the soap and cause yellowing, when you switch from your commercial detergent to this laundry soap. To help remove the detergent residue, use 1/3 cup of washing soda for a normal load for the first wash.
Enjoy! :)
